The RAG

The rag was all tattered, it was ragged and soiled
And everyone thought that its purpose was spoiled.
It lay in the darkness, on the floor it was thrown.
There was no one to hold it for it was alone.

But then came the Master, so loving and good,
He lifted the rag as none thought He would.
He plunged it deep in the water for cleansing.
Then lifted it out of the dirt He was rinsing.

With the rag in His hand, He knelt before others.
He washed all their feet for they were His brothers.
At the end of this gesture, He reminded each soul
“No one is worthless, to serve is our goal!”

Devotional

Luke 7:37-38,39,44,47 (NKJV)

And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears… Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.” Then Jesus said, “Simon, ‘Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears… Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”

We should learn three very important lessons from this encounter.

1. Pride and prejudice cripple our ability to see true value.

2. Those who serve deserve acknowledgement.

3. Humility is much more important than status.
