The man was about to leave for work. He asked his wife to pray with him because he was concerned about approaching the boss for a raise.
All day long he felt nervous and apprehensive. Finally, about closing time, he summoned enough courage. To his surprise the boss agreed.
When the man arrived home, he was greeted with the smells of his favorite meal, the table set with their best china, and a card on his plate. Obviously someone from the office had called and tipped her off to the good news. “Congratulations!” wrote his wife. “I am so proud of you for getting the raise! I hope this meal will tell you just how much I love you!”
On the way to the kitchen to thank his wife, the man passed the waste paper basket and noticed another card crumpled up and thrown away. “Honey, don’t worry about not getting the raise,” wrote his wife. “You deserved it, but we’ll be fine without it! I hope this meal will tell you just how much I love you!”
