Frozen River

Late one night, a man was forced to cross a wide, frozen river by himself. Fear gripped his heart as he stepped out onto the ice. The ice creaked and he could imagine the horror of plunging into the frigid water.

Terrified, he laid down on the ice to distribute his weight. Progress was painfully slow as he crawled along.

Then it happened. Off in the distance he could hear a rumble. He felt the ice vibrate beneath him and he knew it was the end. “The ice is breaking!” he thought to himself. “I’m about to die!”

Gathering all the courage he could muster, the man glanced upstream. To his great surprise, there was a team of horses pulling a sled of timber over the ice toward the sawmill downstream.

Hurriedly, the embarrassed man got to his feet and confidently walked the remaining distance across the ice.

Devotional

Job 38:29-30 (NIV) “From whose womb comes the ice? And the frost of heaven, who gives it birth?”

Job 37:10 (NIV) “The breath of God produces ice, and the broad waters become frozen.”

The same God Who causes the broad waters to become frozen is the same God Who can hold you up when life seems too heavy. Are you inching your way across the ice? Get to your knees (pray), then get to your feet (live by faith).
